Monday, March 28th, London

This just isn’t good enough. What a dreadful and neglectful website owner i am. Thing is, i keep being prevented from getting near a computer what with planes, music, margaritas, and a shit internet connection that doesn’t work anywhere but my house, which i’m never in anymore. So i apologise, i will do better. Manager is threatening to get gadgeted up which will mean i can give on the spot updates should unimaginably exciting things occur.

SXSW, the music(/margarita) festival in Texas was a blast. I had a 2pm folk club gig, a painfully early wedding-style breakfast appearance, and a Friday night guerilla show inside the bar of a bloody huge outdoor stage which Bloc Party & Kasabian played on. I started out to 10 people and finished off to a full room. Good old larynx and wee bastard. Austin was like being in Spinal Tap, and i saw alOT of good music. Kaiser Chiefs, Be Your Own Pet, Ed Harcourt who got me up to sing a tune with him, The Earlies (who nearly fucking killed me that night – when they’re looking drunk you know you’re in very deep water), and two of my all-time favourite bands, The Magic Numbers and The Legendary Shack*Shakers. And of course, i came home with a new hat.

Flew to Paris the day after getting home, and then to Amsterdam, and off to Berlin tomorrow, i’m now habitually carrying a neck pillow in me handbag. I have to admit, i love a good airport. You don’t have to DO anything, just watch and drink gin…

Just started reading Bob Dylans book Chronicles and loving it. But man, he’s read alot. It’s all books books books. Tolstoy just hasn’t entered my world yet. Many books have influenced my thinking, but i’d like to read a book that makes me burn everything i own and wander off into the woods.

Was back in the studio with Steve for a day to record a couple of B-sides, and it felt gooood. Such a buzz. So excited to make another album with all the experience of making the first one under my belt, so many things i want to do. And as for the filthy diskorock record i’m planning…i just need a few days to myself…mwah ha haa!

I’m more present than i’ve ever been – i have little idea of what’s going on outside of right now, and i like it. It’s a good way of living. I’ve asked not to be told what i’m doing, but just accept it will be something and i’ll find out. And i’m writing story songs.

ALOHA!!! I’ve just worked out who i am, where here is, and have managed to find my computer and i can only apologise profusely for my neglectful abandoning of the diary. It means alot to me to keep writing the odd slab of nonsense in it, so i have to work out a way of doing it whilst living on a bus…

Well goodness me that was feckin great. Worra tour. Every show has been sold out since November and it just keeps feeling like throwing a top party. The songs moved forward, the chemistry between me and the guys continues to develop, and along with the crew it has become a really close family. I remember always dreaming about sitting around a table with people i loved & played with, eating good food, drinking good booze, and getting pissed up reminiscing over great gigs. Dream no more daughter of Tunstall!! Tis real.

Thanks for so many good nights and memories, you all rule.

Just did a photo shoot yesterday which was alot of fun – the photographer was a top bloke called Derek Santini. It’s weird with photos; i want to represent myself in them, but have a habit of turning my mouth into a cat’s arse every time i see a lens…

Trying to deal with whisky withdrawal and a bed that doesnt’ have an engine. South by South West next week, Texas here i come…
