KT Tunstall Diary

    Sunday, April 16th, London

Just back from another adventure in the great foodland of the west. I’m becoming completely addicted to Mexican and have started eating it for breakfast…

I’m totally loving these trips to the US. It’s a weird way of doing it; to and fro every month, but i need to keep stacking the kindling under new songs, and actually it’s grand coming home a bit more. It’s the first bit of headroom i’ve had for a year & i’m definitely more prolific for it.

Got a quick trip to L.A. at the end of the tour (just to completely dismantle my body clock) to do the Jimmy Kimmel show & CD:USA; the latter was a little stressful due to the fact that when it came to record Black Horse, the room was full of a throng of screaming kids, and as soon as i started the pedal they began clapping like a runaway bloody train and i consequently firked it right up! Thankfully, the nice folks let me do it again and throng were ordered to clap after wee bastard was well up & running.

My celebrity story for you this week – i spent a class couple of hours chatting to Ms Minnie Driver who is officially a champion bird. I was telling her about my miniscule vegetable patch in London, and she said i should rename my Broccoli, CarbonMonocoli. Sharp as a knife that girl. I’m also very impressed that after 8 years of living in LA, she still doesn’t have a trace of an American accent.

Went to see ‘Inside Man’, new Spike Lee film which i thought rocked. You can’t beat a bit of Denzel, but Jodie Foster’s legs are magnificent! (as is she, as always), but really, it’s virtually a showcase for the womans pins. Big respect to the Foster’s scrambled eggs. (is there rhyming slang for legs?)

My friend was telling me today she read that i’m apparently ‘hiring a body guard’. I’m hoping enormous men in shades aren’t going to turn up at my door for ‘auditions’, and have their friends rush at me with various weapons in an attempt to show me how safe they could keep me. ‘Not today thankyou’, i shall say through the letterbox.

And now, what i KNOW you’ve been waiting for…
    THE RANDOM FACT!!!

Apparently (this is not a disclaimer, i chose to believe the following fact to be true), there is an area in northern siberia where it is so bitterly cold, that one hears a tiny tinkling sound when one speaks, which is due to (now this bit IS sketchy) ice particles forming and then cracking in your larynx.

This is courtesy of Tim, who just made the film for the DVD. He caught the random fact disease!

    Beep beep, KT x
ps. very very very very excited that we’re going to japan…

  2. 5th April, 2006

Wednesday, April 5th, New York City

Just back from seeing the Gorrilaz at the legendary Apollo in Harlem, and my my oh my, what a show. Neneh Cherry, De La Soul, gospel choir, kids choir, full string section, and that Damon Albarn has such a beautiful larynx on him…the animation is as you well know the best around, and the whole cocophony was fat AS.

It’s painful to only have a day in NYC; we got in at 3am, i was up & out by 8 for a photo shoot (ouch) and had a wicked day playing a couple of little solo spots. I ‘outed’ a brand new tune today (inspired by the Tibetan ‘Sky Burial’ ritual where vultures take the body of your relative apart and bit by bit return them to nature – not telling you the name, you’ll have to wait!) to test it out and i just love the electricity of playing a song live for the very first time…the circuit board lights up.

It’s late, and we have to leave in an hour to drive to Detroit. I’m purty buggered.
I’ll leave you with a class story; my friends dad is on the local council, and a chap stood up in the monthly meeting and said,

“i hear there have been some serious allegations made against me. First of all, i would like to know what these allegations are, and secondly, i would like to know WHO the alligators are.” Class.

    xxx
