Noo Yoik
I saw my first teenage punk band last night! There wasn’t an abundance of punk bands on offer growing up in St.Andrews, so I’m more than happy to start now.
The Black Lips; the Ramones re-incarnated in 4 boys from Atlanta. Half way through, the small guitarist (who looked like Benny from Crossroads’ little brother on acid) puked on demand whilst playing, and 5 minutes later was snogging the tall mad-haired other guitarist who has a gold grill for top teeth. My favourite song was called ‘Do You Really Want To Hold My Dirty Hand’.
The black art of mixing is going brilliantly, I couldn’t be happier with how the record is sounding. My mum phoned the other day and said, ‘how’s your new tape coming along?’ which I thought was wicked!!
Also saw an amazing 5 piece japanese prog girl band called OOIOO who are soooo ace – lead singer is THE Yoshimi from the Flaming Lips album! The drummer is surely the next Sheila E. And also went to Marc Ribot – Tom Waits’ guitarist – doing a solo show which was great and very mental. His bass player was surely part spider; just the longest man in the world.
Staying in New York is proving a most inspiring time. The kidneys are enjoying it too and have responded very well to the sushi and nightly gigs. I think early mornings are definitely bad for my health.
An incredible thing happened. I was writing underneath a lamp for a good hour before I went to bed one night, and as I hit the pillow and turned the light off, an ethereal glow surrounded my chest…I looked down under the duvet and saw…MY FAVOURITE GHOSTBUSTERS 2 T-SHIRT IS GLOW IN THE DARK!!!! I must have had it for a year and never knew.
Right, on with the nonsense. That tune I recorded last minute? Well it wasn’t finished, so I just had to get the wee casio keyboard out again…killer!

5th March, London
Yesss!! The day has arrived; the ingredients for my album pie are officially in the bag. What a rollercoaster it was. It felt as if i needed to go through the wringer i used to play with in me grannys back garden to get back into a headspace to create new music, write again, communicate ideas, and play and sing with real joy. In honour of my dear scientist father, I have created a little equation:
Schedules=Longtimetomakeanythinganygood.
It took an age for me to get back to being an imp in a box, which is when the recording process feels right to me. I was an imp on the loose back there…and shall be again very soon, in my magic bus full of boys!!
I’m doing ok in the kidney shaped areas – i’m still not 100%, on anti-biotics AGAIN, but i’m much closer to sorting it out. Interesting that your kidneys are directly linked to emotions and insecurities in the more esoteric fields of health research…and it started shortly after the first attempt at recording down in Rockfield back in the summer and has stayed with me since…me?! Anxious about my follow up record?! Surely not! I wonder if, now it’s finished, i shall wake in the morning feeling like a spring lamb, cured of all my ailments. But really, i’m a happy sheep for now.
Ah! The Grammys! Really didnt expect to win anyway, loved going. And if your going to lose ‘Female Pop Vocal’, then it certainly might as well be to X-tina. The girl puts a lot of effort in. It was pretty mental…Prince & Beyonce looked utterly fabulous, Justin Trousernsnake was all-singing, all-dancing making a school uniform look trendier than ever, and Corinne Bailey Rae was pure respite from all the madness when she sang, just her picking on a guitar. Lovely. Relaxed me somewhat after not being allowed to drive the quarter of a mile from the ‘checkpoint’ to where my award ceremony was, as my car ‘didn’t have the right pass’. I did point out that all the people IN the car had passes, and that the car wasn’t actually coming in to sit with us, but no. The heels had to come off (thank god i had the trusty boots in my bag for the aftershow party) and we had to shanks it. Not quite the glamour i had anticiapted, but quite amusing all the same.
A week off now, then off to be a resident of New York for 2 weeks to mix the pie ingredients. Can’t wait. I’ve always wanted to spend more time in New York, so it’ll be gigs, sushi, swearing, and coffee milkshakes for me.
Ya-hoo.
Very excited about V…I’m mildly obsessed with The Killers so double whammy there i say. Rather looking forward to hearing Kasabian too. Liking their new stuff.
We will do more gigs! More!! Just give us a wee while to learn this new stuff to the point where we will totally titillate yer Ocelots. (you know, how do you titillate an ocelot? Oscillate it’s etc)
Big love KT x
ps. People kindly informing public of me whereabouts and whatnots through means of publications, gonny no exaggerate toooo much eh?! All my mates think i’m dying!! Ta xx -
