KT Tunstall Diary

  1. 20th May, 2007

    Saturday, May 19th, New York

So, i walk into this bar called Midway on the lower east side where a friend has brought me to a kicking Bob Dylan 66th birthday tribute night, and as i’m chatting i see a fashionable young man at the bar and think to myself…i know that guy…the stubble, the chiselled features…how do i know him, how do i know him?! From home? From gigs?

BOOM! I remember and walk over.
    “Are you called Sean?”
“Yes” he replies, looking increasingly stalked.
    “You were in my video.”
“But i’ve never been…oh my god, you’re that girl!!”

And that was the moment i met my love interest from the Other Side of the World video for the very first time!! It was so funny; the guy was completely freaked out, and i have to say i found the whole thing a little trippy myself, seeing someone SO familiar but you’ve never actually met them. It must have been over 2 years ago we shot that.

I also met another familiar face at the gig. I’d been reading Vogue on the plane over, and as i turned round to comment on the guitarist’s amp damaging my left ear, i was confronted by the ridiculously gorgeous face of Agyness Deyn who’s on the cover this month and nearly choked on me g & t. (Yes! I’m MUCH better thankyou; the kidney and kidnette say hello and thanks for all the well-wishing!!) What a top class bird she is, and always good to hear a Mancunian accent come out of a supermodel.

Doing some promo for the Drastic and really enjoying it. Bit hard to get back into it at first, but one of the first things i did was to play in a kids hospital with Project Sunshine – a thing i do through Origins; it’s not all corporate handshakes and free cream you know!! – and seeing little kids bopping along whilst holding their drips steady was absolutely champion. Certainly put my slug-like struggles into perspective.

C’mon the gigs! I’m like a dog with a sausage tied to its tail. Mad for it. And i can’t keep it in any longer…

WE’RE GONNA HAVE TWO HOT BACKING SINGERS!!! The boys and i have been deeply entrenched in ‘Tunstall Idol’ and have already found one girl called Cat who properly rules. We have chica number 2 in the final stages of auditioning so fingers crossed we’ll have an extended band for rehearsals when i get back. I always imagined having 2 rockin’ girls doing all those bv’s, and the new stuff demands it. We definitely needed the extra clapping power anyway.

The artwork for the album is coming along great; Robin Footitt, Drastic-artist-in-Chief, did an amazing painting of me, and we are about to try and build the background in lifesize 3D for a photograph. Yeeeeha!!

Right, that’s quite enough long lost love interests, supermodels, children and 3D art for one day.
Missing you all lots and hope all is jumping beans.
    Love KT xxx
