    Monday, January 28th, Norway

I knew it was going to be a good year, I had a feeling in my bones. January has already been a walk in the sparkly woods!

Got back from a great trip to NYC – playing Joe’s Pub was a total treat; heard so much about the place and understand why now.

A few hours after landing home we opened the front door to perhaps our most memorable visitor yet…

Super-Patchy! Remember I mentioned how amazing the head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) was? Well, Mr Rajendra K Pachauri, or Patchy to you and I, popped round ours in Harlesden for a cuppa! I was a little bit nervous receiving a Nobel Peace Prize winner with jet-lag – you worry you might pour fabric softener in the tea instead of milk – but it turned out his travel schedule was more mental than mine and we had a grand time.

We talked about where in the world was feeling climate change the most – The Maldives apparently; islands are being evacuated already. Went on holiday there a couple of years ago and it was paradise. And he also talked about the inevitable conflict that lies ahead with the displacement of millions of people, and that there was cause to play concerts to promote peace and tolerance within the subject of global warming.

Then the next day when the doorbell rang, in walked another wise old bearded gentleman…

Seasick Steve! What a brilliant afternoon, sitting playing, hearing his stories about living in Laurel Canyon in the 60’s, remembering watching kids skateboard in empty pools before half-pipes even existed, playing with The Doors and R.L.Burnside, reminiscing about working a job sanding the insides of fibre-glass sewage tanks…I told him I think he might be the Forest Gump of Music. I can imagine him being in the background of every famous photograph…

I was WELL nervous playing with him at the Astoria, but loved it and was so flattered he asked me. I liked cracking out the tin-whistle too – the root-a-toot-flute hasn’t been out the box in a while. The folks were well chuffed. All those lessons culminating in me making a total racket with 2 old guys causing a din. Woohoo!

What else…Oh! The lovely Sporty Spice asked if I’d like to go to one of their shows, and if course I said too right I do, and sorry to disappoint any dissenters out there, but it was ACE! It looked great and was such a laugh. The mics were definitely on people, and the ladies were in tune. Fact. The only down side was I went half bloody deaf from the screaming – I had to get my left ear checked out for tinitus. Rrrrawk and roll eh? Well I’ll tell you what, Scary said one of the filthiest things on stage I’ve ever heard when they had their ‘what have you had too much of over christmas’ section of chat – the girl is on fire!

In a gorgeous little hotel in Lillehammer in the mountains to make the vid for If Only. Well excited, it’s my favourite storyline yet…I’m making it with a guy called James Caddick – check out his brilliant short films called ‘Preparing for the Worst’.

I shall tell you this much; I have agreed to put on a skin-tight all in one outfit and perch at the top of a 140m Olympic ski-jump. That is apparently really, really, really, really high, and also really very steep. Good view though. I won’t tell you exactly what happens, but let’s just say it’s my first ever vid with fake blood in it. Yessssssss. And I thought the trapeze was hardcore…

Everything is twinkling white up here and all the fir trees are caked in snow. Ahhhh!! Fairies and baby lambs!!

Must get to bed so I have a fucking strong grip on that little bar I have to sit on…

    Love KT xxx
Ps. My ski jumper pseudonym if you’re wondering, is…....................... Victoria Spünj. World Champion. She flies like a, fly.

Thursday, January 10th - Ding dong ding dong...

    Hippy New Year people!

Hope you all had a brilliant/bearable/spritual/spirit-fuelled one (delete as appropriate).

Thanks so much for all the excellent cyber cards + messages, and particularly loved being ‘elfed’!

It’s been ace having 3 weeks off…it’s so weird when you come back from touring, skulking from room to room, thinking ‘what do you do here again?’ and before you know it you’re re-packing that old friend bag.

No! Not this time! I perfected my veggie lasagne, watched Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (oh my god, Paul Newman – the drawing on the vinegrette bottle really doesn’t do him justice), finally finished the 1st series of 24 (I’m now convinced there’s a conspiracy against Keifer which is why he’s in jail for boozy driving…hmm, ok, maybe not), nearly set the solar panels alight in a New Year chinese lantern incident, and ingested quite a lot of chilled sherry.

    AND...

Lucky Luke calls me on christmas eve,
“I’m in Norwich with my mates” he said.
    “Say hi” I said.
    “Katie says hi” he shouted.
LIAR! He was in a pub in Leith in Edinburgh with my big brother, who I didn’t even notice had disappeared for 3 hours! So 11 o clock on christmas morning, the doorbell goes and I’m all worried it’s the paps wanting a shot of ‘KT’s hand-knitted christmas day outfit with matching headband and slippers’ (I’m joking), and it’s Luke, suited and booted. With all his bags. And a little box. Wrapped with a ribbon.

He PROPOSED!!! AAAAAAAAARRR!! He’d been to see my folks a month before to ask their permission, so everyone knew – I’m slightly worried at how good they are at acting now!

Being an opportunist, I obviously said yes, and we’re gonna do the deed way up in the wild north before the end of the year. It feels smashing. I never thought it would make me feel so good. I’m tempted to be really sad and post a pic of my ring – it’s gorgeous! Keep an eye out for a little sparkle as I’m playing those chords…

Off to NYC for to kick start what a reckon is gonna be a kick-arse year.

Big love + see you soon,
    KT xxx
